During cultural celebrations singing and dancing take a great place, and many of the songs and dances have been handed down from generation to generation. The Indian movie industry, Bollywood, is the most popular in the country, followed by Hollywood. It is also very common for the country to receive great stars such as Aerosmith, Santana, Shakira, Celine Dion, Coldplay, Christina Aguilera, Elton John for performances.

The food is another attraction of the United Arab Emirates. Even though the traditional food of the Emirates has been rice and fish; nowadays, the locals have created a cuisine that mixes foods from nearby countries such as Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Oman. Other common dishes in the loca diet are lamb, mutton, and goat. As pork is prohibited for Muslims, it is not included in the local menus. If you cannot help to have some pork or have a drink when visiting this country, have in mind that only some supermarkets may sell alcohol and pork to sell, but in separate sections of the place. However, you may also be able to have a drink and some fun at a local nightclub or golf clubs, and even at restaurants and bars of some of the cities.

      Generally speaking, the United Arab Emirates is a rich country. Petroleum and natural gas exports play a key part in the economy, especially in the city of Abu Dhabi. Activities such as the construction, an expanding manufacturing, and high class-exclusive services boost the country’s economy. Among the most ambitious architecture projects are the Burj Khalifa, which is the world's tallest building, Dubai World Central International Airport which will be the most expensive airport in the world, and the three Palm Islands, which are the biggest artificial islands in the world. Other projects including the Dubai Mall which, the world's largest shopping mall, Dubailand, which is expected to be twice the size of Disney World, and the Dubai Sports City which will be part of future Olympic bids; attract tourists from all around the world.

In relation to imports, the most important are manufactured goods; machinery, and transportation equipment, which account the 80% of total imports. Over 200 factories operate at the Jebel Ali complex in Dubai, which includes a deep water port and a free trade zone for manufacturing and distribution.


  • The best places to visit

      There are several overwhelming places to visit in the territory of the United Arab Emirates. The first most attractive city would be definitely Abu Dhabi, which is worldwide known as the richest city in the world. The luxury is everywhere in this site, and you wouldn’t help to keep your mouth open when looking at the magnificent constructions. Some of the most recognized and unavoidable places in this city are also the Hili Archaeological Gardens, for nature lovers; and the Qasr Al Hosn, which is a historic palace. In the mean time, the city of Ajman is another great option for visitors of the United Arab Emirates. It is almost impossible not to be amazed by the constructions and projects of this city. Here, the buildings seem to meet the sky, and there are plenty of shopping malls, hotels and residential villages.

On the other hand, one of the most famous cities in the country is Dubai. It probably has the most luxury and exclusive buildings and structures. In fact, an architectural boom has taken place in this city, giving space to constructions such as Burj Khalifa, which is currently the world's tallest building. It is actually one of the most modern and abstracts designs in the world.

      Dubai is probably the main medical tourism city in the United Arab Emirates. The local healthcare has some of the highest levels in the world, in consequence with the general exclusivity of this country. The medical treatments that attract the most to medical tourists are plastic surgery and advanced procedures, cardiac and spinal surgery, as well as dental treatment.

There is another important point to underline about the local medical tourism industry. That is, it is expected to generate about 7 billion dirhams during 2010. In fact, according to a report made by the information centre of Abu Dhabi Chamber of commerce and Industry it is expected the country's medical tourism to grow 15% annually.
