The surgery can be performed using the laparoscopic method. The surgery is used when a patient presents a formation of nodules in the pelvic area. Using the laparoscopic technique, doctors and surgeons are able to get a better management of the surgical procedure. Among the advantages that this type of surgery brings, we could include a shorter period of recovery, a less painful post operative process and a better and faster healing of the incisions which are smaller compared to an open surgery.
The surgery solves a problem caused by the formation of nodules in a specific area. These nodules are formed, usually in the pelvic zone. Nodules cause, in the majority of the cases severe pain and difficulties to walk and to move normally. They are detected by the use of X-ray radiographies, which are taken when the doctors think that the patient could have this disorder.
The surgery will be performed by the use of general anesthesia. Once the patient is completely numb, the surgeon will make a 10 mm incision in the abdomen. The doctor will make other small incisions that will be quite useful especially when the professional has to use and pass through the incisions, tools and delicate instruments. The doctor will use a laparoscope that is introduced in the top of a surgical tube. The laparoscope is essential during the operation because it gives the possibility of viewing inside the patient´s body. The images are reproduced in a special monitor that will be located in the operating room. The laparoscope helps the team of surgeons to watch where they have to make the cuts and where the problem is located. This is a delicate surgery that must be done meticulously by the team of professionals. During the operation the surgeon will be sure of the complete extraction of nodules, to prevent in this way the future formation of them in another part of the patient´s organism.
Once the patient has left the hospital or clinic, she/he should follow a few rules. It is probable that the doctor will recommend resting for one or two weeks after the operation. The surgeon will give a diet that will be based on soft food and liquids. The function of the diet is to avoid the body a great effort in the process of digestion; after the surgery the body of the patient will be more tired and will spend a lot of energy healing. After two weeks from the operation, the patient will be able to resume his/her normal activities, including going back to work. If the patient feels that he/she is not prepared to resume his/her normal activities after the normal period of recovery, he/she should notify the doctor about this situation. If the patient feels unusual pain around the affected area, it is essential to tell the doctor about it to prevent any future complication.
Among the possible complications we can mention four possible risks. Some of them are: bleeding, infection, an adverse reaction to the anesthesia and an organ being affected during the surgical procedure. If the patient notices unusual bleeding, which in the majority of the cases is abnormal because of the size of the incisions, he/she should notify the doctor about the situation. An infection will be avoided by the use of prescript medication; the function of this medication is to eliminate the risk of having a formation of bacteria. An adverse reaction can be prevented before the operation. The anesthesiologist will make examinations to the patient; by making these tests and taking proves, he/she will determine if the patient is allergic to a specific substance or component that should not be used in the surgical procedure. It is possible; however it only occurs in a small percentage, that an organ could be affected during the surgical procedure. In a laparoscopy, this risk decreases, because it is a less invasive surgery.
The surgery will relief the patient from feeling pain and difficulties in the development of her/his normal activities. One of the aims of the surgery is to avoid the future formation of other nodules in another part of the patient´s body. The patient will feel healthier after the operation, regaining his/her health, agility, strength, fitness and wellness.
The surgery will not be accompanied by an incorporation of additional medication. It is possible that if the patient feels severe pain after the procedure, the doctor may recommend a prescript medication; however the patient will not have to have this medication during his entire life.
